Research is all about asking questions of the world around us and seeking to understand the answers as best we can. Sometimes the answers are easy to understand, and sometimes they just raise more questions. Being able to puzzle it out and contribute to a larger understanding of a topic or the people around us is really rewarding. However, it also forces us to acknowledge what we know and more importantly, what we don't know. I was trained in a scientist - practitioner model- which means that I'm both a research scientist and a therapist. The goal is that the clinical work I do is informed by science, and ideally my science and research are equally informed by the work I do. Below is a sampling of some of the academic research I have been privileged to be involved with over the years.
